The University of Cambodia and the Asia Leadership Center invite the public to spend the afternoon and dialogue with President Dr. José Ramos-Horta, 1996 Nobel Laureate for Peace, as he speaks on the topic “Building a Culture of Peace and Development in a Globalized World.”
As part of the ALC’s ongoing Eminent Leaders Lecture Series, “Bridges,” will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the UC Conference Center on The University of Cambodia’s main campus, just south of the Independence monument.
In 1996 Dr. Ramos-Horta was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize with Bishop Carlos Belo, the religious leader of Timor Leste to “honor their sustained and self-sacrificing contributions for a small but oppressed people.” In addition, it was hoped that the “award will spur efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict of Timor Leste based on the people’s right to self-determination.
During the event, UC President, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn will bestow an Honorary Doctorate Degree on President Dr. José Ramos-Horta for his lifetime achievement in the field of peace.
The ALC is happy to host President Dr. José Ramos-Horta as part of its Eminent Leaders Lecture Series as it strives to achieve its goal of promoting, encouraging and informing people about many different aspects of leadership. The series intends to cover a variety of topics relating to leadership, including peace, development, democracy and more. Accompanied by other programs such as workshops and interactive conferences, it is just one of the ALC’s tools to perpetuate an understanding of leadership in today’s society.
The Bridges lectures are free of charge and open to the general public. For more about ALC’s Eminent Leaders Lecture Series and upcoming Bridges events visit the ALC website at www.alc.uc.edu.kh or contact:
